Meet

Shaundelle Brooks

Shaundelle Brooks became a passionate advocate for gun violence prevention after her son, Akilah DaSilva, was tragically killed in the Antioch Waffle House mass shooting in 2018. Driven by an unwavering resolve, she has traveled the country, engaging with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to push for meaningful policy changes. Her journey has connected her with countless families devastated by gun violence, reinforcing her commitment to making a difference. Shaundelle has attended numerous state legislative hearings, gaining deep insights into Tennessee’s legislative processes, and is determined to transform the state’s approach to gun violence in honor of Akilah’s memory.

Raised in Brooklyn, New York, by two police officer parents, Shaundelle developed a strong sense of justice and a commitment to societal betterment from a young age. Her career as a parole officer in Nashville has given her firsthand experience with the criminal justice system. She has successfully helped individuals reintegrate into society after completing their sentences, providing her with the unique ability to focus law enforcement on violent offenses while addressing crime’s root causes as a state lawmaker.

Shaundelle resides in Hermitage with her three children, Abede, Amber, and Aldane. Her relentless pursuit of justice and community safety is a testament to her enduring love for her son and her unwavering commitment to making a positive impact.
